Bonde do Role - Quero Te Amar |
] |
I've a soft spot for modern updates on accessories that used to be way hawt back when people didn't shower or brush their teeth much, like those Shakespearean ruffs, peplums and bonnets. Now can add spats (stiff fabric covers attached to the top of shoes to protect em from wear & tear) to the list. They had their heyday in late 19th/early 20th century, so.. proper vintage then. Not that it prevents this here woman from looking thoroughly du jour. Oh, and she stuck the spats on top of Givenchy sandals some more, so deliciously irreverent in times when people seem to ape runway looks/styling unthinkingly to street (Prada SS07, agh). I spoz spats, ruffs and the lot teeter precariously towards being too costume-y but if done well it's a snappy way to jazz up boring Topshop-type stuff that everyone and their postman has which is a v gud thing, as I possess many of aforementioned boring Topshop-type stuff.
Wiki: "Spats, especially white ones on highly-polished black shoes, formed part of the stereotype dress of a wealthy young man of the era, along with a top hat and a cane."

All images from Posso the Spat. Trying to find out if anywhere in Singapore sells them spats but even if they do is probably in those Haji Lane stores which I don't dare to venture into cos poor :[
